Introduction: The Space
Share
It is my dream to facilitate conversation, connection and belonging. I absolutely love information and research. However, it does me no good if I cannot share it or put it to good use.
Most the people in my life know I want a bakery/coffee shop/music venue/library/choose your own adventure shop. I have been called Kitchen Mom on many occasions. I love creating a space for people to be themselves. Even though I am an introvert, I crave hosting events where human interaction is more than just drinks and debauchery. My big dream, my slightly hidden dream, is to create a community or place for people to honor their grandest callings. The bakery idea is a play on this idea; I only discovered it recently.
Sure, I feel free when I am making bread. It's soul-filling work. Yet, the main point of the bakery is to have a space for people to create art or write or do homework after school with like-minded students. It's a place where the cashier can take one look at a person and know they need the nostalgic chocolate chip cookie straight from the oven instead of the kale smoothie they are making themselves drink. No matter what my life brings, I know I am more than just a cook or a baker or a candlestick maker (or in this case, hat-knitter). I am here to foster conversation and connection.
The Space morphed over the years in my mind, but the theme remained the same: You belong. Your thoughts and ideas and feelings matter. I cannot make a person love themselves or listen differing opinions. I provide resources and tools. I give space. While I allow the ideas for the Space to simmer and stew, I choose to apply the principles to other parts of my life.
A gorgeous soul recently told me that I am the Space. It is not a place I create. I already am the Space. I take it with me on each new adventure. Storied Knits is one such adventure. I love my day job and it suits me for now. It's no secret that I will not be a preschool lunch lady forever. Yet, on hard days, I try to remember that I am the Space. I can bring a little relief or connection or just a hug to a teacher or child or parent. Storied Knits is my way of giving a little more.
I needed a side project that generated some income. I tried the second job thing. It was so much fun being able to help a new restaurant open its doors, but I realized I was only meant to be there for a short time. Besides, my dog is my why. It does not make sense that I work two jobs and see him for an hour every night. Storied Knits answered my call for the moment. While the site needs some extra love and kinks need to be worked out, I hope visitors can find a little joy. If you are here just for a hat, I am grateful for the exchange and I hope you enjoy the product. If you decide to throw a story in your cart as well, I will treat your request with kindness and heart.
Note: all items are made to order. I want to give each order the care and space it deserves, so be patient. Don't hesitate to send me a note about special requests or expedited orders. I appreciate the feedback. However, there are no guarantees. I am just getting started, and I do not have a factory of laborers working behind the scenes. I hope to provide some fun and comfort. In the future, I plan to give money off every order to a charity or cause. For now, let's start small and work our way up.
Thank you for taking the time to read and browse. Your support, all of your words and insights and purchases and hugs and bars of chocolate are what fuel me. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for being yourself.
